No sleep till Brooklyn

Written by Chris Illuminati on October 15th, 2009

Last weekend, the wife and I finally had the chance to visit her brother and his girlfriend in Brooklyn. They moved into a new place before the summer and we just never got a chance to visit. With a kid on the way, and the holidays creeping up on us like H1N1 in a frat house bathroom, we figured it was now or never.

Of course, I snapped some pictures.

This is the view from their condo balcony. One entire wall is a window. It’s an amazing view. I’d never want to leave the house. I don’t now and all I can see out my window is my neighbor doing Pilates in wigwams. Not pretty.

On the way to brunch, I stopped to snap this pic. I had no idea what it was but it made me laugh. The bro-in-law explained it’s a war between Dick Chicken and Pussy Ham. Dick Chicken graffiti is all over Brooklyn. Pussy Ham showed up recently to challenge Dick Chicken’s turf. I knew we should have moved here.

After lunch, we hit up a second-hand store. They had cookbooks for $.50. I have no idea who this guy is but I can’t imagine a burger being plain and fancy. That makes no sense. Plain OR fancy and you get my two quarters. I’ll make it a dollar if you give me that apron.

There was a bin of random pictures of people. Odd purchase. Even odder if you found someone you know. If you did, would you buy it?

Not a great pic because these were at an odd angle but let me explain; the top picture is an African American man in just his underwear. The picture below is an older African American policeman. I’m not sure if they are the same person. I named them “On Duty/Off Duty”. Oh yeah, and there is Velvet Elvis.

Look, this has nothing to do with religion but you can’t tell me that is not a disturbing rendition of Jesus and a kid. His face is creepy. The kid is even creeped out. Probably the oddest Jesus pic….

….ever. I want this for my living room.

Checked out a couple baby stores. They have Baby Bruce tees. This fatherhood thing may be more fun than I thought.

Ultimate Warrior statue in a window. If I didn’t know the story of Dick Chicken this would be the coolest thing all day.

All I can do with my old bubble gum is make it stick to a shoe.

Bro-in-law needed new sneakers. We stopped in a skater store. This half-pipe was in the store. That guy on the board is an employee. Rough job.

A line from one of my all-time favorite movies. Know it?

The sun goes down on an awesome day. The night was fun too but it’s kind of foggy.

Oh. Right.
